The '2026 Incheon Wondosaje & Nakseom Festival' will be held in Incheon on October 24. The festival, hosted in Michuhol-gu (District), runs from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day and is open to everyone with no age restrictions.
The festival has its roots in state-run sea rites of the Joseon Dynasty. At the time, rites to the sea were held in places such as Incheon, Suncheon and Gangneung, and the Incheon Dohobu (regional government office) offered rites to the god of the West Sea at Wondo, also known as Nakseom. Incheon Wondosaje refers to the rites held in spring and autumn at Wondosa, a shrine built on Wondo, where the local Incheon official, on behalf of the king, gathered the spirit tablets of various islands. This year's festival combines a re-enactment of this rite with a village festival featuring a gilnori (traditional street procession) in which residents take part.
The main program is the re-enactment of the Incheon Wondosaje rite. Alongside it, a parade called the 'Harmony Gilnori' will take place, and the theater company Keundeul will perform on the traditional performance stage.
Side events include traditional games and cultural experience booths, as well as a talent show in which residents take the stage themselves. Food trucks will operate at the venue, and a lucky draw event is also planned. Inquiries about the festival can be made at 032-866-3994.
