The '2026 Hanbok Culture Week' will be held for 7 days, from October 19 to 25, at more than 410 venues nationwide, including Yeollin Madang (the open yard) of the National Museum of Korea in Seoul. Now in its 9th year, the event is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organised by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, and sponsored by Arts Council Korea.
Hanbok Culture Week is a nationwide hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) event held every year in the 3rd week of October, centred on 'Hanbok Day' on October 21. Aiming to expand the culture of wearing hanbok in everyday life, it consists of a commemorative ceremony, fashion shows, exhibitions, performances, hands-on activities and academic forums. Programmes are also held at participating venues across the country and at overseas venues, presenting hanbok as contemporary culture and as a medium for international exchange.
The main commemorative event will take place on Hanbok Day, October 21, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Yeollin Madang of the National Museum of Korea. A commemorative performance and a hanbok fashion show are scheduled to take the stage.
Related programmes have been held ahead of the main event. On October 16, the 'Hanbok Life UNESCO Academic Symposium' was held at the Gangneung Cultural Center, featuring lectures and a panel discussion, and 'Book Festival X Hanbok Culture Week' is being held in 3 sessions from October 16 to 18 around the Music Plaza of the Seoul Arts Center. Earlier, on September 11 and 12, the '2026 Chuseok Hanbok Wearing Campaign' was held at the central lawn of Yeollin Songhyeon Green Plaza, where visitors tried on hanbok and experienced traditional games.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is open to everyone with no age restriction. For details, inquiries can be made by phone (02-522-882).
